There is a picket line at the entrance to the commons block in the Thunderbird Residence. This houses administrative offices. The picket line currently runs from West Mall to Thunderbird Boulevard, circling the Thunderbird Residence and SHHS Facilities Offices.
The entrances to the residencies are not affected at this point and the impact on students is expected to be limited.
Custodial workers continue to withdraw their services and CUPE 116 members continue their overtime ban.
The university remains open, with the continued provision of classes, labs and exams as well as other services. Faculty and staff who are not engaged in job action are expected to report for work.
CUPE 116 represents more than 2000 employees in trades, food services, student housing, parking, research labs and more. CUPE Local 2278, representing teaching assistants, is still bargaining with UBC. CUPE 2950 and the University have reached a tentative deal.
