UBC will begin mediation with CUPE 2278, the union representing teaching assistants and non-credit instructors at the English Language Institute, on Tuesday, Nov. 6. For more information, read Bargaining Bulletin #50 at www.hr.ubc.ca/collective-bargaining/bargaining-bulletins.
Limited job action is anticipated on the UBC Vancouver campus Monday, Nov. 5.
UBC remains open and will provide as normal operations as possible. Students should assume classes are going on during job action. As a matter of conscience, students can choose to not cross picket lines and must provide notice of their intentions. They are expected to attend scheduled classes, labs and exams. Faculty and staff who are not part of job action are also expected to come to work.
Please note: Any notice to respect previous job action does not carry over. Notification deadlines for students, faculty and staff who wish to respect CUPE 2278 pickets have already passed.
The Academic Position of Students in Case of a Strike (PDF) and the VP Students website contain important information for students.

The University values all members of its community and recognizes the legitimacy of the bargaining process, which includes the option of job action. UBC members are asked to remember that the community will be working together again at the end of the present dispute. UBC’s statement on the respectful workplace is applicable during job action
