Limited job action by CUPE 2278 is possible on campus Oct. 30.
CUPE 2278 represents teaching assistants at UBC and non-credit instructors at the English Language Institute.
UBC remains open and will provide as normal operations as possible. Students should assume classes are going on during job action. They are expected to attend scheduled classes, labs and exams. As a matter of conscience, students can choose to not cross picket lines and must provide notice of their intentions. Faculty and staff who are not part of job action are also expected to come to work.
Please note: Any notice to respect previous job action does not carry over. If you intend to respect any picket lines arising from job action by CUPE 2278, you are required to provide notice. Deadline for faculty and staff has already passed.
The Academic Position of Students in Case of a Strike (PDF) contains important information for students, including direction about how to inform the dean of the faculty offering their program if, as a matter of conscience, they are choosing not to cross picket lines. Students have until 3 pm on October 31 or prior to their first exam, whichever comes first, to take this action. More information is available on the VP Students website.
