CUPE 116 members began limited job action Oct. 4. The university remains open today, Oct. 9, and students will continue attending classes, labs and exams. Faculty and staff who are not part of job action are also expected to come to work.
CUPE 116 represents more than 2000 employees in trades, food services, student housing, parking, research labs and more. Other CUPE locals representing mostly teaching assistants and secretarial staff are still in bargaining with UBC.
Students are expected to attend classes, labs and exams, and to understand and act on their rights and responsibilities.
Students choosing not to cross picket lines must inform the Dean of the Faculty in which they are registered or in the case of graduate students, the Dean of the Faculty offering their program of study, by 11:45 am on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 or prior to their first exam, whichever comes first.
